A man and a woman set out to sea in search of paradise and arrive among us. Are we the inhabitants of that paradise? They have a clear, dynamic purpose; we, in contrast, are static, scattered, and bored. Isn’t this how gods are meant to feel? Where do we go if we already live in paradise?
This play is a wake-up call: a reminder to assume our responsibility. We do not need to find meaning in our own lives, because it is we who give meaning to theirs. The worst that could happen when those who risk everything arrive is that they find a lost society still searching for something it already possesses.
We are already here, and we must embrace our role as inhabitants of paradise. And if our lives have no meaning, neither does this play: a pregnant woman refuses to give birth, companies sell disasters over the phone, politicians perform theater, and artists do politics. Meanwhile, a man and a woman sail across the sea in search of Lampedusa, an imaginary paradise.
All these threads intertwine through humor, poetry, and philosophy, fulfilling an anthropological mission: To find Lampedusa.
